Former Mo. senator to review military study

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Former U.S. Sen. Jim Talent has been picked to serve on a panel that will evaluate a military review completed by the Pentagon.

Talent, a Missouri Republican, has been selected to serve on an independent panel created by Congress to assess the Department of Defense's Quadrennial Defense Review. That report outlines the country's military doctrine and describes the nation's strategic objective and potential military threats.

Talent says the United States faces more dangers now than during the Cold War and that risks to the country are growing.
