Fayetteville hospital gets $2M for hospice care

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A foundation is giving $2 million to a Fayetteville hospital to help with the construction of a 12-bed inpatient hospice facility.

Officials from Washington Regional Medical Center say the gift from the Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation is a big step toward raising the $4.5 million needed to build the facility.

Paula Hartz, the director of Washington Regional Hospice, says the facility will allow patients to come to a place where the focus is on hospice and palliative care. She says that would be much better than simply putting such patients into a hospital.

The Arkansas Health Service Permit Agency would have to approve 12 beds at Washington Regional before the project can proceed.
