JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Hundreds of thousands of Missourians could find it easier to renew their vehicle license plates in the new year.
A law that takes effect Jan. 1 will exempt vehicles no more than five years old from safety inspections. A 2006 model car, for example, would be exempt from inspections until 2011.
Missouri's current inspection exemption applies only to the first two years.
The Missouri Department of Revenue estimates the expanded exemption will apply to 650,000 vehicles in 2010.
