JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - If the holiday shopping season is the make or break time of the year, traffic numbers comparing this year to the previous show the Mall at Turtle Creek is well made.

According to the numbers released to Region 8 News from the mall, the numbers were up each weekend leading up to Christmas:

Date 2008 Traffic 2009 Traffic
12/05 48,718 41,615
12/12 70,049 44,535
12/19 58,688 58,083

"Most of our stores are number one in the region or number one in the nation. They've seen huge increases from years passed," said Mall Marketing Coordinator Sarah McGavran.

She thinks Jonesboro's economic bubble on top of good marketing has helped. "I think a lot of our stores have done some really good promotions and lots of good sales and things like that...great commercials, great radio promos just to help get people out to the mall," said McGavran.

McGavran said overall traffic is up for December is almost 25% up from 2008, and the year is up just about the same.

Sales results for the month will be available sometime in January.
