JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The North Arkansas Electric Cooperative is issuing a warning related to the extreme cold temperatures expected over the next few days: isolated power outages could be a reality.

According to NAEC CEO Mel Coleman, their system is not expected to experience any widespread problems. Still, Coleman said the temperature extremes could expose weak spots in the 5000 miles of line that may be affected.

"We urge all residents to have plans in place in the rare event of an extended power outage," writes Coleman, in a news release.

He adds that the North Arkansas Electric Cooperative team has been identifying any possible weak spots to take steps to avoid any extended outages.

The Region 8 StormTEAM says temperature could be as low as negative 5 degrees with winds as high as 30mph in parts of Region 8. Chief Meteorologist Ryan Vaughan says the worst of the cold is expected to arrive Thursday and continue into the weekend.
