St. Louis (KAIT) - One of the coveted free agents in the hotstove season has decided to stay in St. Louis. Matt Holliday announced on ESPN Radio today that he has signed a 7 year, $120 million deal with the Cardinals.
The contract is the largest in club history and runs through the 2016 season.
The Mets and Orioles were rumored to pursue his signature, but the Cardinals were said to be the favorite all along.
Holliday hit .353 with 13 homers and 55 RBIs in 63 games for St. Louis this past season. He was traded to the Cardinals from the Athletics in July 2009.
