JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The winter weather is causing numerous problems on Region 8 roadways.

Jonesboro Police, Arkansas State Police, and law enforcement across Region 8 have seen an increase in the number of accidents calls coming into the 9-1-1 center.

Slick spots are being reported all across Region 8, but highway 18 between Lake City and Jonesboro is extremely dangerous. As many as 4 cars have run off the road into ditches in that stretch of road.

Jeff Pressley with Craighead County 9-1-1 is urging drivers that railroad crossings in the area are very slick as well making them hard to cross. Pressley is asking drivers to call 9-1-1 immediately if a car becomes stuck on a train track crossing so they can contact the Train Traffic Controller.

Region 8 News learned a Fed-Ex truck jackknifed into a ditch on highway 63 blocking traffic in both lanes for a few hours Thursday morning. Reports are also coming in that highway 63 between Bay & Trumann are extremely slick, and caution drivers to avoid the area.

Police are requesting motorist to stay home and don't get out unless you need to. Police say if you must get out, please drive slow and give plenty of stopping distance between you and the car in front you.
