Jonesboro police standoff ends with suspect not inside home

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A police standoff in Jonesboro Thursday afternoon ended several hours later with the suspected gunman not inside.

Around 4:30pm police were called to a home in the 1800 block of Eldridge Street near the Arkansas State University campus.

According to the alleged victim, he came home to a burglary in progress.

The homeowner escaped unharmed and called 911.

Jonesboro police, including SWAT members, swarmed the home believing an intruder was inside, armed with a shotgun.

Officers attempted to make contact, but received no response.

When officers entered the home nearly three hours later they found it empty.

Officers also did not find a shotgun.

The search continues for the armed intruder.
