EAST CAMDEN, Ark. (AP) - A former Bentonville police officer who was fired for mismanaging the evidence room has lost her state certification.
The Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training meeting in East Camden Thursday decertified former officer Michelle Smith.
Smith's attorney and doctor said a combination of antibiotics and steroid injections she took to recover from methamphetamine-related chemical exposure were the cause of her problems.
She received medical treatment in 2008 after repeated exposure to methamphetamine-making chemicals at crime scenes.
Smith was fired after supervisors learned she stopped taking evidence to the Arkansas Crime Laboratory. She also failed to separate drugs, guns and cash for storage in a more secure room.
