Judge to decide soon on '93 boy killings retrial

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - A judge says he'll decide early next week whether to grant a retrial for two men convicted in the 1993 slayings of 3 8-year-olds at West Memphis.

Court briefs were due Friday to Circuit Judge David Burnett. The judge told the Jonesboro Sun that a decision on whether to grant new trials for Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr. could come Monday or Tuesday.

The pair, along with death row inmate Damien Echols, were convicted of luring Christopher Byers, Steven Branch and Michael Moore to a rain-filled ditch and then killing them. Misskelley has recanted a confession he gave to investigators.
