COPY-QB Mallett, 4 others undergo surgery since season

Associated Press - January 17, 2010 6:14 PM ET

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino says five Razorbacks have undergone surgery since the end of the just-completed season, including quarterback Ryan Mallett.

Petrino said at a news conference Saturday that Mallett underwent a tightening procedure on his left shoulder - not the side he uses to throw. Petrino said Mallett suffered an injury to the shoulder last spring, but it didn't affect his throwing.

However, the coach said the injury did cause Mallett some pain when he was handing the ball off with his left hand.

Other Arkansas players who had work done by surgeons were fullback Van Stumon (shoulder), tight end Chris Gragg (pin removal) and offensive linemen DeMarcus Love (knee) and Grant Cook (knee). Petrino said none of the operations was considered major surgery.
