ASU Men's Basketball Looking Down On the Rest of the Sun Belt

Jonesboro (KAIT) - Middle Tennessee's 47-46 win Monday night over Western Kentucky gave ASU the overall lead in the Sun Belt standings. The word has spread around the rest of the Natural State and even nationally.

Arkansas Sports placed the Red Wolves (10-7, 5-1 in SBC) in the "Penthouse" Tuesday for their three game winning streak as well as being the only Division 1 basketball program in the state (Arkansas, Central Arkansas) with a winning record.'s bracketologist Joe Lunardi constantly tweaks his predicted bracket for the NCAA tournament and he's projected the Red Wolves as the #15 seed in the West Regional if the season ended today.

But there's a long long way to go until Selection Sunday. There are 12 games remaining on the conference slate before the Sun Belt Tournament in Hot Springs. ASU has a Florida swing with FIU and FAU this Thursday and Saturday, then they come back to the Convocation Center January 28th to host Louisiana-Lafayette and Denver on the 30th.

Early February will be a gauntlet. There's a three game roadtrip to UALR (Feb. 4th), New Orleans (Feb. 6th), and Western Kentucky (Feb. 11th). After that tilt, four of the last five games are at the Convo, including the season finale with Troy on the 27th.

For the moment, Arkansas State is atop the basketball world in the Natural State, save for Arkansas Tech being #1 in Division II.
