Judicial confirmation hearing opens for Marshall

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Appeals Court Judge Price Marshall faced friendly questioning as the Senate Judiciary Committee opened confirmation hearings on his nomination as a federal judge.

President Barack Obama has nominated Marshall to be a U.S. district judge for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions told Marshall and three other nominees that he's heard no serious criticism of any of them. And Delaware Sen. Ted Kaufman referred to the four as "well-qualified."

Marshall told the senators a judge's obligation is to be impartial and must communicate decisions clearly.

He has been a state appeals court judge since 2007.
