BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Harding baseball team was selected fourth of eight teams in the 2010 Gulf South Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll on Tuesday, a prediction that would send the Bisons to their third straight GSC Tournament if it proves correct. The top four teams in each division qualify for the GSC Tournament in Millington, Tenn., in May.
Southern Arkansas, which enters the season ranked No. 4 nationally, was unanimously chosen as the favorite in the West Division. Delta State was second, followed by Ouachita Baptist, which was only one point ahead of Harding for third.
Valdosta State is the preseason favorite in the East Division.
Harding's lone representative on the Preseason All-GSC Team was senior Brodie Brumley, a 2nd Team All-GSC honoree last season. Brumley will miss the 2010 season after undergoing elbow surgery during the offseason.
The Bisons had three players listed among the conference's top newcomers—junior catcher Jason Nappi, senior pitcher Patrick Nappi and junior outfielder Clay West.
Harding opens the 2010 baseball season on Feb. 6 with a doubleheader at Abilene Christian.
