Region 8 (KAIT) –
Almost 40 suspected drug dealers have been arrested across Region 8.
Sheriff deputies in Butler County, MO and Jackson County, AR were responsible for the arrests.
The operation was called "Operation Newport" and was run out of Newport, with five other cities being involved including Jonesboro.
During the operation undercover agents along with cooperating witnesses purchased multiply ounces of crack cocaine powder, more than 33 pounds of cocaine powder was collected. Seven suspects were arrested during this undercover operation and faces 10 years to life if found guilty on the charges of conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of crack cocaine.
In Poplar Bluff officers intended to serve 45 warrants, but they were only able to serve 30. In a press release Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whitely says officers will work on serving the remaining 15.
