LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Tech officials say they've trimmed the number of scholarships granted by the school to comply with a new state law, after three years of granting scholarships beyond state limits.
A letter sent to hundreds of students who applied for scholarships at the Russellville school says they will be put on a waiting list. The letter says Tech is able to fund scholarships at the usual level, but the new law limits the number of scholarships that can be granted.
Tech spokeswoman Susie Nicholson said the school has notified 374 students as of earlier this week that they were on waiting lists. Nicholson said that, last fall, Tech offered 1,102 scholarships and 745 were accepted.
She said that, for the upcoming fall semester, Tech has offered 405 scholarships.
