POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) - A southeast Missouri man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for running down another man with his truck, then spinning the tires on top of the victim.

The sentence was handed down Monday for 47-year-old Jerry Oliver Stewart of Poplar Bluff. He was convicted of assault, armed criminal action and leaving the scene of an accident for a crime that happened Dec. 1, 2008, outside a bar.

The Poplar Bluff Daily American Republic reports that witnesses saw Stewart back over Gary Eugene Lawrence. One witness said she heard the tires squealing on top of Lawrence.

Lawrence survived but lost a kidney and injured an arm.

Stewart testified that it was an accident.
