Empty SUV found burning on New Madrid County road now linked to meth lab explosion

NEW MADRID COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Miner fire department was called to County Road 824 around 6:30 Friday morning.

When they arrived they found an empty SUV fully engulfed in flames sitting in the middle of the road.

Now, the New Madrid County sheriff's department is calling the SUV fire arson and linking it to an earlier report of a meth lab explosion.

The meth lab explosion was reported at 4:25 Friday morning on New Madrid County road 820.

When deputies arrived at the home on 820 they found one person with serious chemical burns. This person was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Back on CR 824 there was no driver or passengers found with the burning SUV.

Firefighters were able to get the fire out quickly but it had already destroyed the SUV.

At this time there is no word on who's SUV this was or what may have caused this fire.

Names of people involved are being withheld by the New Madrid County sheriff's department pending formal charges.
