FAYETTEVILLE -- Winners of three straight games and the co-leaders of the SEC Western Division, the Arkansas Razorbacks return to Bud Walton Arena on Saturday afternoon to take on the Auburn Tigers in a 12:47 p.m. tip. The Razorbacks will be giving away player trading cards at the gates.
Arkansas (11-11, 4-3 SEC) earned its spot at the top of the SEC West by defeating west leader Mississippi State, then second-place and No. 18 nationally Ole Miss on the road and then picking up a win at Georgia. The three-game Razorback winning streak is its longest since the 2007-08 season when it won four straight.
The Razorbacks lifted themselves up from the grave on Wednesday night as they fell behind by 15 points at the break. Scoring the game's first five points, the Hogs watched Georgia go on a 15-0 run and despite crawling back late, allowed the Bulldogs to enter halftime with a commanding lead. Arkansas turned to Courtney Fortson who scored a game-high 27 points and willed the Razorback to victory while also getting significant contribution from freshman Marshawn Powell who scored no points in the first half and 11 in the second.
Auburn (11-11, 2-5 SEC) ended a two-game skid in its last game at home against Alabama, winning 58-57, on Saturday. The Tigers have been off for six days prior to Saturday's road contest and are just 2-4 away from their home arena and 1-2 in SEC play outside of Auburn. Auburn is led by DeWayne Reed who averages 16.1 points per game and has 97 assists and 33 steals. Frankie Sullivan and Lucas Hargrove each average 13.2 points per contest and give the Tigers three viable options for their offense.
The Arkansas-Auburn game will be broadcast on the SEC Network at 12:47 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. This is Arkansas' second early appearance on a Saturday afternoon, the first against Alabama and was a 71-59 victory. The contest can also be heard on radio across the state of Arkansas on the Razorback Sports Network with Mike Nail and Rick Schaeffer giving the calls. Nail is in his 29th and final season as the play-by-play voice of the Razorbacks.
Looking past the Auburn contest, Arkansas stays at Bud Walton Arena to take on the LSU Tigers on Wednesday, Feb. 10, before traveling to Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 13.
