Searcy, Ark., man spends Friday nights at track

SEARCY, Ark. (AP) - Raymond King of Searcy is proud of his fourth-place finish in the standings at the Batesville Motor Speedway in just his first year of competing. The 40-year-old King said racing at the half-mile oval track is a blast - or he wouldn't be doing it.

King has been a stock-car racer for 10 years, and also competes at the West Plains Speedway in West Plains, Mo. and the Tri-State Speedway in Pocolo, Okla.

He says he likes racing because the cars are fast, and the races are a little bit dangerous. He said that, despite the expense of his hobby, he's hooked now.
