JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- A fire leads to an interesting find for the Jonesboro Police Department now they're processing the evidence and searching for their suspects.

"We actually just stumbled upon it," said JPD Patrolman Jason Cook.

Fourteen pounds of marijuana was found after a fire at 2200 Belt Street Apartment #7 on Friday night.

"Once they got there they found what they thought was marijuana and they called the PROWL unit out," said Cook.

Cook said the marijuana was actually the source of the fire.

"It actually caught on fire.  They actually placed all the marijuana on top of a gas hot water heater," said Cook.

You can see the black spots in the marijuana where police say the suspects have burned up their profits.  Cook said the street value of the drug is about $800 a pound making this an over $11,000 bust that's now up in smoke.  Police tell Region 8 News that's now all they found after the fire.

"We also found scales in the apartment and a loaded fire arm," said Cook.

That mixed with pills, a bag of mystery substance, and other items can lead to some pretty steep charges.

"Possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver, simultaneous possession of drugs and a firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession without a prescription," said Cook.
