Rogers mayor announces bid for Boozman's seat

ROGERS, Ark. (AP) - Steve Womack, mayor of Rogers for 11 years, says he wants to move up to Congress. Womack said Friday he is seeking the Republican Party's nomination to the 3rd District congressional seat being vacated by Rep. John Boozman, who is running for the GOP bid to unseat Democratic U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln.

Womack said that, if elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, he will fight for a balanced federal budget, lower taxes, traditional marriage and a strong national defense. Womack said he is anti-abortion. Other announced candidates for the Republican nomination are retired Brig.

Gen. Bernie Skoch of Elkins; Gravette businessman Damon Wallace; and Steve Lowry of Fayetteville, a retired agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
