CHAFFEE, MO (KFVS) - Police arrested two people after a high speed chase topping speeds of 100 miles per hour ended in Scott County Monday afternoon.
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says the two suspects, a male driver and female passenger, are from Poplar Bluff.
The chase started in Bollinger County.
Police stopped the car on County Road 205 and State Hwy. M just before 4 p.m., according to the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department.
The Sheriff says the suspects told him they had marijuana in the vehicle and the driver was a prior felon and didn't want to go back to prison, so that's why he ran.
Sheriff Walter says he will pursue 1st degree assault charges against both suspects.
"We tried to set out the spike strips and I think at one time, I'm not for sure, but I think he did hit the strips at one time so then he continued on after that," Walter said. "So he chose to try to injure or kill some of my officers."
A Scott County deputy clocked the suspect driving 106 miles per hour.
Walter says four vehicles were damaged in the chase including vehicles from the Scott County Sheriff's Department, Scott City Police Department, and Missouri Highway Patrol.
No one was injured.
