New superintendent named for Twin Rivers district

WILLIFORD, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Education Commissioner Tom Kimbrell has appointed a new leader for the Twin Rivers School District, a week after the state took over the school for accreditation violations.

Kimbrell appointed Tommy Arant, a longtime educational administrator, to the post.

The district has only existed since July 2004 when the Williford and Randolph County school districts consolidated. The state board voted for the takeover after finding the district violated six accreditation standards.

The board voted to split up the district and annex it into neighboring districts.
