UPDATE: Police charge boyfriend in murder of Region 8 woman

NEW MADRID, MO (KAIT) – Police in New Madrid County arrested the boyfriend of the woman found dead along the roadside in New Madrid County.

Police say 54-year-old Jann Wofford shot and killed 49-year-old Dorothy Hood whose body was found along County Road 501 Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators say Hood's body had multiple gunshot wounds at close range. Wofford was arrested late Wednesday night at an apartment complex in New Madrid.

Police say a passerby found Hood's body after noticing blood in the middle of the road.

Wofford is charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action. No bond has been set.
