Jonesboro (KAIT) - Arkansas State senior Rone' van Wyk has been named the Sun Belt Conference women's tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
"I am so happy for Rone'," said ASU head coach Marcia Williams. "She is very deserving of this award, because she has given 100% in every match she has played this semester. Rone' has the best singles record on the team this spring, and she and Elne' are a lot of fun to watch in doubles."
van Wyk went 2-0 last weekend at Alabama-Birmingham, winning both her singles and doubles matches. In singles, she topped Giorgia Romeo 7-6 (704), 6-0 at the No. 3 spot. She and doubles partner Elne' Barnard stand undefeated on the year at No. 1, taking down UAB's Evelien Strijker and Paula Alvarez 8-4.
The Ventersburg, South Africa native has notched a 2-1 singles record and a 3-0 doubles record so far this season.
van Wyk and the Red Wolves return to action Friday, Feb. 19 when they play host to Middle Tennessee at Three Oaks Racquet Club in Jonesboro. The match is set to get underway at 6:45 p.m.
