Basketball Bisons continue tourney hunt at Christian Brothers

SEARCY – The Harding Bisons play a crucial Gulf South Conference game against Christian Brothers at Canale Arena in Memphis. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.

COACHES: Harding is coached by Jeff Morgan, who enters his 18th season as the Head coach of the Bisons. Morgan has compiled a 301-202 record at HU. He has 284 of those victories in his 17 seasons at Harding.

Christian Brothers is coached by Mike Nienaber, who is in his 11th year as head coach of the Bucs and has a 183-123 record. He is 425-407 in 27 seasons as a head coach.

THE BISONS: Harding is currently 4-6 and tied for fifth place in the GSC West, one game behind fourth-place Christian Brothers. The top four teams advance to the GSC Tournament.

Harding has a chance to move above the .500 mark for the first time since they were 8-7 prior to meeting Christian Brothers on Jan. 21.

Harding has two players averaging in double figures during the GSC season. Junior Kevin Brown leads the team with 14.8 points per game and sophomore Kirk Porter is second with 11.2 points per game.

Junior Kevin Brown is moving closer to becoming only the 31st Harding player to score 1,000 points in a career. Brown enters the Christian Brothers game with 989 career points.

Trent Morgan enters the Christian Brothers game with 175 career steals, second all-time at Harding and sixth in GSC history. With three more steals, Morgan will move into fourth in GSC history.

Harding shot 53 free throws in the game against Southern Arkansas, the most ever by a Bison team in a GSC game, the third-most in any game and the most in a game in more than 14 seasons.

Harding had 16 steals vs. Southern Arkansas, tied for the most by the Bisons this season and the most in a conference game. Harding was just one steal short of its record of 17 in a GSC game which came against Ouachita Baptist on Jan. 23, 2006.

THE BUCS: Christian Brothers is a member of the Gulf South Conference West Division and is located in Memphis, Tenn. The Bucs were picked to finish fourth in the GSC West in the GSC Preseason Coaches Poll.

Christian Brothers has the nation's fourth-ranked scoring defense. The Bucs allow a GSC-low 56.7 points per game. CBU has allowed fewer than 60 points in 15 games this season, including the last six straight. Harding was the last team to score more than 60 points vs. Christian Brothers.

Scott Dennis, a 6-4 sophomore guard from Cincinnati, Ohio, ranks eighth nationally in rebounding with 11.5 per game. Senior Kyle Couvion, a 6-1 guard from Dayton, Ohio, ranks 11th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.85).

Christian Brothers has three players ranked in the top 10 in the GSC in assists per game. Kyle Couvion is tied for fourth with 4.09 per game, Scott Dennis is sixth with 3.35 and Zack Warner is eighth with 3.09.

SERIES: Harding and Christian Brothers are meeting for the 63rd time with the Bisons leading the series 32-30. Harding has won two of the last three meetings in Memphis, winning last season 75-74 in overtime. The teams have alternated wins over the last five meetings.
