NEW MADRID COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Crime scene investigators worked late into the night Wednesday trying to figure out how a woman died.
New Madrid County Sheriff, Terry Stevens, identified the woman as 49-year-old Dorothy Hood of the Howardville area.
The sheriff said someone driving down county road 501 Wednesday afternoon noticed blood in the middle of the road and stopped to check it out.
Sheriff Stevens says that person then spotted Hood's body off to the side of the road near a fence.
Investigators believe she had not been there more than a day.
Members of the SEMO Major Case Squad are now investigating the case. They conducted interviews late into the night Wednesday.
An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
Sheriff's deputies ask anyone with information to call police.
