Fontana, CA (KAIT) - Mark Martin finished 12th in the season opening Daytona 500. On Sunday he stayed out of trouble and picked up a 4th place finish in the Auto Club 500.
The Batesville native led five laps, picking up valuable championship points early on in the Sprint Cup year. Martin moved up five spots to 6th in the Race to the Chase.
His Hendrick Motorsports teammate and four-time defending Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson took the checkered flag for his first of what may be many wins this season.
Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, Joey Logano, Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth, Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart, and Greg Biffle round out the top 10.
The Sprint Cup Series heads to Las Vegas for the Shelby American. The green flag drops next Sunday at 2pm on FOX.
