Mobile, AL (KAIT) - The Arkansas State men's golf team ended the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday with its best score of the three-day tournament, shooting a final-round 295 that helped it move up to 10th place in the final standings with a combined score of 896.
After finishing the opening day tied for 12th place with a first-round 305, the Red Wolves moved up one place in the standings each of the next two days.  The Red Wolves cut nine strokes off their first-round score with a 296 on Monday before closing out the tournament with the third best score of the day among the 18 competing teams.
"I thought we played well today," said ASU head coach Steve Johnson.  "Considering we have yet to play a round of golf in the city of Jonesboro this year due to the weather, I thought the guys did outstanding and I am very proud of them."
Kell Shenep and Lloyd du Preez both shot a combined 218 and finished tied for 11th place to lead the Red Wolves.  Shenep posted team-best 67 for the second round, which tied the tournament record for a single round, and du Preez' final-round 69 was the team's lowest score of the day.
Following du Preez and Shenep for the Red Wolves, Chris Pledger finished tied for 85th place with a 234, Warren Hood tied for 89th with a 234 and Tyler Thompson tied for 94th with a 240.
