JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A judge has dismissed part of lawsuit challenging a proposed ballot measure that would require direct election of all Missouri judges. Proponents want to end Missouri's longtime system of having the governor appointing judges to the state Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals and the circuit courts in five counties.
Supporters must get about 150,000 voters to sign petitions to get the question on a statewide ballot. Cole County Judge Patricia Joyce ruled Friday that the summary that would appear on petitions is fair and sufficient.
But she dismissed without prejudice the part of the lawsuit challenging the form of the ballot measure. The lawsuit was brought by several former lawmakers.
