ASU Police searching for suspects in an alleged sexual assault

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Arkansas State University Police are on the lookout for two suspects in an alleged sexual assault that happened on campus early Saturday morning.

The University Police Department at is continuing their investigation over the weekend.  UPD Police Chief Jim Chapman told Region 8 News the alleged incident was reported around 3:45 a.m. on Saturday.  Chapman said police were called to a Jonesboro hospital to take the statement of the ASU college student who said she was sexually assaulted at an ASU fraternity house.

"Allegedly there were two males that pushed her into a room within that residence there and assaulted her and let her go," said Chapman.

This weekend officers are questioning people who were at the fraternity house located at 1002 University Loop East.  Chapman said they're trying to locate everyone who was at the gathering at the Pi Kappa Alpha house on Friday night, but it can be very difficult.

"When you have a number of people at a gathering it takes some time to locate those people bring them in and talk with them and see what information they can gather," said Chapman.

He said investigators were interviewing witnesses Saturday night until around 8 o'clock and those interviews are still happening.  Chapman said they'll continue investigating until they find out what happened.

"There's someone out there that's got information," said Chapman.

Chapman said when you're going to an event on campus it's vital that you take precautions to stay safe.

"Use care when you're attending events, particularly at night.  If you're planning on going to an event use the buddy system and stay together while you're there," said Chapman.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact Campus Police at 870-972-2093.
