Memphis mall guard fatally shot breaking up fight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis police say a mall security guard was fatally shot while trying to break up a fight between two men. Police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph says the attack happened Saturday afternoon at the Southland Mall.

The guard had one of the men pinned to a vending machine but let go to ward off the other one. Then the first man shot the guard in the chest. The suspects fled and no arrests have been made.

The guard was taken to Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not released the guard's name.
