KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas lawmakers are considering a tax hike on liquor that would double the tax on wholesale alcohol and raise an estimated $21.8 million to support programs for the developmentally disabled and mentally ill. It would cost residents a few more cents for each beer or glass of wine.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger is joining colleagues from Oklahoma and West Virginia in opposing interstate health insurance options. She warns they could increase costs and destabilize local markets.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - The Butler County sheriff says a hunting accident has left a Wichita man in critical condition with a stomach wound. Michael Mellecker told deputies his shotgun went off Saturday when he tripped while walking in tall grass on private land east of El Dorado.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A body found in the ruins of a Haitian hotel is believed to be a Kansas City-area doctor who's been missing since the destructive earthquake there. His sister says dental records were used to tentatively identify the body as Frank Vaughters.
