(AP) - Kansas lawmakers are considering a tax hike on liquor that would double the tax on wholesale alcohol and raise an estimated $21.8 million to support programs for the developmentally disabled and mentally ill. It would cost residents a few more cents for each beer or glass of wine.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - The Butler County sheriff says a hunting accident has left a Wichita man in critical condition with a stomach wound. Michael Mellecker told deputies his shotgun went off Saturday when he tripped while walking in tall grass on private land east of El Dorado.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A body found in the ruins of a Haitian hotel is believed to be a Kansas City-area doctor who's been missing since the destructive earthquake there. His sister says dental records were used to tentatively identify the body as Frank Vaughters.
