BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – A Region 8 business man is in jail tonight charged with 8 counts of theft of property.

According to the Baxter County Sheriff's Department, Scott Callies was arrested after an investigation into his business, Pole Barn Specialist.

Police say they began an investigation in October of 2009, after receiving complaints that people had paid Callies up front to build various kinds of pole barns without any construction being done.

Police began investigating the business records of Callies and discovered he had written company checks payable to himself totaling over $20,000. Police say the money was from the funds paid over to Pole Barn Specialist by the various customers/victims for their building projects. The total loss of all the victims was estimated to reach over $29,000.

Callies was arrested on Monday and charged with six counts of theft of property a Class B Felony, and two counts of theft of property a Class C Felony. Callies had bond set at $35,000 and is currently in the Baxter County Detention Center. His next court appearance is set for March 11.
