JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Trumann now has the ability to feed it's citizens who need that little extra help to get by.
Residents gathered together Wednesday morning to celebrate the opening of the Trumann Food Pantry.
This project has been underway for some time and volunteers are thrilled to see it up and running.
The Director of the food pantry, Jeanne Johnson, says reports prove how great the need is in the Trumann area, " Human Services and Poinsett County have given us statistics that show twenty-seven and a half percent, or more, of the citizens of Trumann are living at or below the poverty line."
Johnson says they expect to provide emergency food to as many as five or six hundred a month.
This pantry is a public charity that is not receiving any form of government assistance.
It is functioning purely on donations from community members.
