Ed Department Reorganization Dies in Committee

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Legislation that would require a study and reorganization of the education department failed this morning in a house committee.

The legislation was by Representative by Johnny Key of Mountain Home. It would have required a study on the structure of the education department and what kind of personnel it needs.

The study would need to be done by August 1 with the changes it recommends to be done by January 1.

But Representative Betty Pickett of Conway pointed out that similar study was done within the past 10 years and that recommendations from that study have for the most part been implemented.

Some committee members suggested a review of that study to ensure that improvements have been made.
