BROOKLAND, Ark. -- A Lafe woman remains in critical condition in Memphis Monday after colliding with a train just south of Brookland.

Forty-seven-year old Norma Channell was travelling south on Highway 49, attempting to turn onto Craighead County Road 928.

According to Arkansas State Police trooper Tony Austin, Channell disregarded the crossing signal and collided with a southbound Union-Pacific locomotive.

Channell's white 1994 Olds Cutlass was slammed into a ditch nearly 70 feet away, according to Austin.

She was flown by helicopter to the Memphis Regional Medical Center after rescue workers from Jonesboro and Brookland freed her from her car.
