ASU Women’s Tennis Defeats UT Martin 6-1 Saturday

Jonesboro (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team (3-5) picked up a 6-1 victory over UT Martin Saturday at Allen Park, winning all but one doubles and one singles match against the Skyhawks.

Elne Barnard, Rone van Wyk, Jenny Herring and Menna Kamal all went undefeated in both doubles and singles play to lead the Red Wolves.  Barnard and van Wyk teamed up at the No.1 doubles spot to claim an 8-4 win, and Herring and Kamal took an 8-4 victory at No. 3.

The Red Wolves won five of the six singles matches, and four of those five wins came in straight sets.

Barnard defeated Jodie Tiley 6-2, 7-5 at No.1.  Herring claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Johanie Van Zyl at the No. 2 spot.  Playing No. 3 singles, van Wyk knocked off Martie Wahl 6-2, 7-5, while Kamal claimed a 6-4,6-0 win at No. 5 and Maria Aleman claimed the last win for ASU by scores of 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6.

ASU returns to action Saturday, March 13 in an 11:00 a.m. match at Louisiana-Monroe.
