ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) - Authorities in St. Charles County continue to search for a gunman who fired at a deputy along the Katy Trail, a popular hiking and biking path.
The shooting happened Saturday night in St. Charles. Authorities say the man fired one shot after the deputy approached him to see why he was there. KSDK-TV reports the deputy returned fire but neither man was hit.
About 100 officers searched the Missouri River and rugged terrain in the hours after the shooting, but the gunman got away.
Police doubt the man is still in the area of the Katy Trail but are urging bicyclists and walkers in the St. Charles area of the trail to be cautious.
