LEADING OFF: The Arkansas State Red Wolves take on Indiana-Purdue-Ft. Wayne and Murray State Monday and Tuesday in midweek baseball action. THE TEAMS: Arkansas State will take the field Monday against IPFW at 7-3 on the season. In their most recent action, the Red Wolves dropped a three-game series over the weekend against Portland. Arkansas State won the Friday night opener 7-0, before Portland evened the series with an 8-3 decision Saturday. The Pilots grabbed the series victory with a 5-4 win in the Sunday finale. IPFW travels to Jonesboro in search of its first win after an 0-9 start, including a 3-0 series loss at UALR last weekend. Murray State will take the field at 4-6 when the Red Wolves travel to Kentucky Tuesday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds jumped out to a 4-0 start on the season but have lost their last six, including a three-game sweep at Northwestern State last weekend.
THE IPFW SERIES: Monday's matchup with IPFW will be the first meeting on the baseball field between the Red Wolves and the Mastadons.
ON THE MOUND FOR ASU: Junior lefty Andres Caceres will get the start on the mound Monday against the Mastadons. Caceres is 1-0 on the season with an ERA of 5.40. He has appeared in two games and earned his first win at ASU Feb. 27 against Wisconsin-Milwaukee. On the season, Caceres has worked 5.0 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking three.
ON DECK: Following the Red Wolves' midweek games against IPFW and Murray State, Arkansas State will travel to Lafayette, La. for its Sun Belt Conference opening weekend series against the Ragin' Cajuns of ULL.
