Walnut Ridge, Ark.(KAIT) - A big upset by the Lady Eagles highlighted the last week of basketball season at Williams Baptist College. Both the men's and women's hoops teams from WBC wrapped up the 2009-10 season with play in the American Midwest Conference Tournament.
The WBC women knocked off nationally ranked McKendree on the road during the first round of the conference tourney on Wednesday. The Lady Bearcats entered the contest ranked 12th in the NAIA, but Williams pulled off the 69-67 win.
Jessica Shepard led the way for WBC, scoring a game-high 20 points. Brittney Jones chipped in 15 points, and Rachel Looney had 13 points and eight rebounds. Olivia Morris grabbed nine rebounds. Williams trailed at the half, 38-34.
In the second round, the Lady Eagles played 10th ranked Columbia on the road Friday. Williams was within a dozen at the half, 44-32, but Columbia pulled away in the second stanza to down WBC, 95-63.
Morris paced the Lady Eagles with 16 points and nine rebounds. Courtney Sublett had 13, while Shepard had 12 and Looney had 10. Looney also grabbed eight boards.
The Lady Eagles finished the season with a winning record of 17-15.
The WBC men traveled to 24th ranked Park for their first round AMC Tournament game. The Pirates had the lead after a low scoring first half, 28-19, and went on to secure the win, 66-51.
Senior De'Varrio Watson notched a double-double in his final game with the Eagles, grabbing a team-high 15 points and 12 rebounds. Marcus Massey had 12 points, and Kyle Harvey added 10.
The Eagles finished the season with an 11-20 record.
