Four Mo. men, two businesses facing bookmaking charges

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Four Kansas City-area men are facing federal charges of running an illegal sports bookmaking operation that received more than $3.5 million in wagers.

A 23-count indictment unsealed Wednesday names 56-year-old Gerlarmo Cammisano, 60-year-old James J. Moretina and 54-year-old Michael J. Lombardo, all of Kansas City, and 57-year-old James L. Dicapo of Parkville as defendants.

Two businesses - one in Arizona and one in Costa Rica - also are named in the indictment.

The men are accused of operating an illegal sports bookmaking operation between March 2006 and April of last year.

Cammisano's attorney, Robin Fowler, said his client would plead not guilty. It wasn't immediately clear if the other three men have retained lawyers.
