Trial date set for triple-murder suspect

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - A man facing three counts of second-degree murder for his role in a triple homicide will go to trial next January.

The Southeast Missourian reported that the trial date for Samuel "Ray Ray" Hughes was set Tuesday. The killings occurred in Cape Girardeau in October but the trial will be in Mississippi County on a change of venue.

Authorities say Michelle Lawrence plotted to kill her husband, John Lawrence, who shared a home with Jamie Lynn Orman. Lawrence was not home but Orman, her unborn child and her 15-year-old son were shot to death.

Michelle Lawrence is charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. A third suspect, Ryan Patterson, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
