Benton preschool to rehire juror it fired

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An Alexander woman who was fired after reporting for jury duty will be reinstated to her job at a Benton preschool.

The agreement by The Learning Center to rehire Elizabeth Curtis was approved Thursday in an order filed by U.S. District Judge Bill Wilson Jr.

Wilson had ruled in February that Curtis was illegally fired Jan. 25 because she took off work to report for jury duty.

The school will reinstate Curtis as a cook's assistant, pay her $1,73 in back pay and pay her attorney fees of $3,290.

An attorney for preschool operator Andrew Bunten declined comment on the agreement. Curtis says she hasn't heard from anyone at the school - but expects to return to work next week.
