Monroe, LA (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's tennis team (3-6) dominated doubles play against Louisiana-Monroe but could not hold on in singles play as they dropped a 4-3 decision to the Warhawks Saturday afternoon in Monroe, La.
"This was another close loss for us that lasted four and a half hours," said ASU head coach Marcia Williams. "Unfortunately, they were stronger in singles than us today. We hope to get another chance to play them at the conference tournament."
The Red Wolves swept doubles play, winning at all three positions. Elne' Barnard and Rone' van Wyk topped Claire Clark and Monica Winkel 8-3 at No. 1 to improve their season record to 7-1. Maria Alemán and Ioana Teu defeated Lena Satge and Jourdan Smith 8-7 at No. 2, and Jenny Herring teamed up with Menna Kamal to down Ana Burjaili and Vivian Polak 8-6 at No. 3.
In singles action, Arkansas State only picked up two wins. Herring fought hard for a 7-6, 6-7, 10-1 victory over Satge at No. 2, and Kamal defeated Sidney Bruscato in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4.
The Red Wolves will hit the courts again Sunday, March 14 when they take on Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La. at 10:00 a.m.
