SYMRNA, Tenn. (3/14/10) – The Arkansas State women's bowling team (72-36) finished fourth with an 11-4 record on the weekend at the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt in Smyrna, Tenn.
ASU went into the last day of competition seeded third for the best four-of-seven baker format. The Red Wolves topped fourth-seeded Sacred Heart in their first match of the day but fell to second-seeded Vanderbilt. Arkansas State closed out the tournament with a loss to
"I still foresee us going to nationals," said ASU head coach Justin Kostick. "We didn't shoot spares as well today as did the rest of the weekend, but I think we performed well enough to continue in the post season."
Marissa Martinek finished the tournament fifth overall and was named to the all-tournament team. Martinek posted a 203.5 weekend average and had a high-game of 259.
The Red Wolves now await a bid to the NCAA Collegiate Women's Bowling Championships, hosted by New Jersey City University. The championship tournament will take place April 8-10 in North Brunswick, N.J.
