ASU's Carling seeking third straight top-10 finish

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. (KAIT) - Freshman Anna Carling led the Arkansas State women's golf team during the opening day of play at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate on Monday, shooting a combined 151 at the Eagle's Landing Country Club to end the first two rounds tied for sixth place.

Carling, who collected a top-10 finish at each of the Red Wolves last two tournaments, shot an opening-round 76 and then posted a 75 for the second 18 holes. Carling's second-round 75 was the lowest of the day by an ASU?player.

The Red Wolves shot a combined 649 to finish the first two rounds in 13th place among 13 teams, but are within 10 strokes of 10th place Florida International. ASU?posted a 328 for the first 18 holes, but cut seven strokes off that total during the next round.

Also competing for ASU, Jennifer Welch is tied for 48th place, Cassie Huffer is tied for 54th, Jennifer Loiacano is in 68th and Adrian Sportsman is tied for 69th.

The final round of the 54-hole tournament will begin Tuesday morning.
