Jonesboro (ASU) - The Arkansas State track and field team will get their first chance to compete outdoors when they open their outdoor season at the LSU Relays this Friday and Saturday.
The Red Wolves turned in solid performances during indoor season finishing in fourth place on the women's side and fifth place on the men's side at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships.
During the championships, freshman distance runner Samantha Salinas broke an 18-year old school record in the mile, while sophomore pole vaulter Stephanie Foreman repeated as indoor pole vaulting champion.
On the men's side freshman sprinter and jumper Solomon Williams was named freshman of the year after scoring 18 points individually at the SBC indoor meet.
During competition at the LSU Relays last season ASU had two regional qualifiers during the two-day event. Carlos Mattis regionally qualified in the triple jump which he again compete in this year.
Action kicks off on Friday with the women's javelin competition at 10:30 a.m. Running events begin with the 4X100 relays Friday afternoon at 2:15 p.m.
